چکیده
The understanding and modeling of inelastic scattering thermal phonons at a solid/solid interface remain an open question. We present fully quantum theoretical scheme to quantify the effect anharmonic phonon-phonon via nonequilibrium Green's function (NEGF) formalism. Based on real-space rate matrix, decomposition interfacial spectral energy exchange is made into contributions from local nonlocal interactions, which former shown be predominant for high-frequency whereas both are important low-frequency phonons. decay phonon modes revealed play crucial role in bridging bulk across interface. overall quantitative contribution anharmonicity boundary conductance found moderate. work promotes deeper heat transport intuitive interpretation NEGF

Phonon scattering at a rough interface between two fcc lattices
Elastic phonon scattering at an atomically rough interface that separates two fcc lattice leads is computed via a Green’s function method. Results are compared to specular and diffuse phonon scattering models, both of which are widely used in the numerical simulations of phonon Boltzmann transport equations. The shape of the discrete interface in the model is quantified by its spectral characte...
متن کاملGiant anharmonic phonon scattering in PbTe.
Understanding the microscopic processes affecting the bulk thermal conductivity is crucial to develop more efficient thermoelectric materials. PbTe is currently one of the leading thermoelectric materials, largely thanks to its low thermal conductivity. However, the origin of this low thermal conductivity in a simple rocksalt structure has so far been elusive. Using a combination of inelastic n...

متن کاملCoupling between phonon-phonon and phonon-impurity scattering: A critical revisit of the spectral Matthiessen’s rule
The spectral Matthiessen’s rule is commonly used to calculate the total phonon scattering rate when multiple scattering mechanisms exist. Here we predict the spectral phonon relaxation time τ of defective bulk silicon using normal mode analysis based on molecular dynamics and show that the spectral Matthiessen’s rule is not accurate due to the neglect of the coupling between anharmonic phonon-p...
متن کاملElectron-phonon scattering at the intersection of two Landau levels
We predict a double-resonant feature in the magnetic field dependence of the phonon-mediated longitudinal conductivity σxx of a two-subband quasi-twodimensional electron system in a quantizing magnetic field. The two sharp peaks in σxx appear when the energy separation between two Landau levels belonging to different size-quantization subbands is favorable for acoustic-phonon transitions. One-p...
